MICHEAL SHELLIS FOR DICKIES
December 13, 2024
We had the honor of being invited to compete in Adidas' first ever Consortium Cup; a first-of-its-kind four week long footwear design tournament with 16 of the world’s most iconic sneaker stores going head to head for the chance to be crowned champions.
Organized in a four round knockout format, the Consortium Cup puts some of the best sneaker stores in the world head to head to compete in a series of sneaker design inspired challenges. With the Round of 16 focussing on adidas’ classic silhouettes, the Quarterfinal highlighting the Three Stripes’ basketball legacy, the Semi-Final exploring running innovation, and a top-secret Finale, each round is set to take on a specific theme related to the brand’s storied heritage.
The first round we went head to head against Carnival, a premier shoe boutique in Thailand. This round was focused on Adidas' classic silhouettes so we decided to do our take on the samba with a "Vintage Luxury" design. Thanks to our amazing community we we're able to move past the first round and ensure that our Sneaker Politics Samba be manufactured later on this year.
The second round was focused on Adidas' Basketball Legacy. We chose to give the Adidas Centennial 85 Low the "Vintage Luxury" treatment in our head to head battle with the UK sneaker powerhouse Offspring. It was a close battle, but in the end Offspring pulled a few more votes and won the round.
Although we didnt win the whole tournament, we had a great time designing some of our favorite Adidas silhouettes and we look forward to releasing the Sneaker Politics Samba in the near future.
