The design of the Awake NY x ASICS GEL-KAYANO TRAINER 21 was inspired by the vibrancy of Miami. The colorful hues seen throughout the architecture, coupled with the contrast of the blue waters of Miami Beach against the white sand have always been a welcome view for any New Yorker who’s used to seeing concrete day in and day out.Following in the footsteps of Asics hybrid design approach, the Asics x Awake NY Gel-Kayano Trainer 21 combines archived aesthetics with performance capability. Inspired by the heritage of the Gel-Kayano Trainer, this hybrid version preserves the MONO-SOCK™ design from the 90s running shoe, while replacing the upper materials with pigskin nubucks and perforated underlays. This variation also incorporates the same tooling from 2014's Gel-Kayano 21, featuring GEL® technology cushioning in the heel and forefoot to evolve the retro runner with performance functionality.
